Lithium Batteries

Can I recycle it? Yes, but never in your kerbside recycling or rubbish bin.

Why? Lithium batteries can catch fire if damaged, crushed or overheated. They contain valuable materials that can be recovered and reused.

How should I dispose of it?

  • Tape the battery terminals before storing.
  • Keep batteries in a cool, dry place.
  • Take them to a battery recycling or e-waste drop-off location.

What happens next? Recyclers recover materials such as lithium, cobalt and nickel for use in new products.

Top Tip - Damaged or swollen batteries require extra care. Never place them in household bins.
