Our Queenstown Commercial and Municipal crews showcased their commitment to safety at the branch’s annual training event. The day was marked by full attendance, reflecting the team’s dedication to fostering a safe working environment for both staff and the wider community.

HSEQ Advisor Rodney Jarvie led the comprehensive training sessions, covering several critical topics designed to enhance the team’s readiness and safety skills.

  • Fire Warden and Practical Extinguisher Training: This session equipped participants with essential knowledge and hands-on practice for reacting effectively during a fire. The training aimed to build confidence and ensure that everyone is prepared to handle fire emergencies swiftly and safely.
  • Impairment Awareness: This module focused on the importance of staying alert and making sound decisions at work. It highlighted strategies for recognising and addressing impairment, ensuring that staff can perform their duties safely and efficiently.
  • Fatigue Management: Acknowledging the realities of long hours, this session provided insights into identifying fatigue and its effects on performance. The training emphasised the importance of recognising when it’s time to rest and avoid compromising safety due to tiredness.
  • Dealing with Threatening Behaviour (CR9): Participants learned practical tools for managing and de-escalating potentially volatile situations. This session focused on identifying threatening behaviour, maintaining personal safety, and responding appropriately to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Spill Response Awareness: The training included strategies for effectively identifying and containing spills. By preparing for potential accidents, the team learned how to minimise environmental impact and ensure safety in case of spills.

The event was a testament to Queenstown’s commitment to safety, showcasing a collaborative effort to build a resilient and well-prepared team.

Kudos to the Queenstown crews for their enthusiastic participation and dedication to creating a safer workplace. Together, we continue to uphold our values of Safety, Sustainability, and Togetherness.
