WM New Zealand has officially opened a new EV charging hub in Lower Hutt, marking an important step towards a lower-emissions future for waste and resource recovery services in the Wellington region.

Located on Seaview Road, the new facility has transformed a former storage and parking area into a dedicated electric vehicle charging hub featuring 12 charging stations designed specifically to support WM New Zealand's growing electric fleet.

The project was delivered through collaboration between teams from across the country and reflects WM New Zealand's ongoing investment in innovative solutions that support more sustainable operations.

The charging system has been carefully designed to efficiently manage power across the site, ensuring vehicles are charged and ready to deliver essential services each day.

The facility forms part of a growing EV infrastructure network in Wellington, alongside WM New Zealand's Port Road site and Hutt City Council's Silverstream Landfill EV Hub. Together, these facilities will support the transition to a fully electric kerbside collection fleet servicing Hutt City Council by the end of the year.

As councils and communities around Aotearoa continue to seek lower-emissions solutions, investment in electric vehicle infrastructure is playing an increasingly important role in reducing operational emissions while maintaining reliable services.

For WM New Zealand, projects like the Seaview Road charging hub are part of a broader commitment to building a more sustainable future and supporting the transition to cleaner transport technologies.

Delivering the project required significant planning and technical expertise, particularly when it came to securing sufficient power capacity and designing infrastructure capable of supporting multiple heavy electric vehicles. The successful result demonstrates what can be achieved through innovation, collaboration and long-term thinking.

As WM New Zealand continues to invest in fleet electrification and sustainable operations, the new Lower Hutt charging hub represents another important step towards reducing emissions and delivering smarter waste solutions for New Zealand communities
