Ferr began at the Neales Road Technical Services site in 2023 on a fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. Within five months, she was offered a permanent role. Two years on, she works closely with medical institutes and other organisations to ensure their hazardous waste is safely treated and rendered inert.
“Customer service isn’t just about taking bookings,” Ferr explains. “It’s about understanding each customer’s situation and helping them find the safest, most effective solution.”
For Ferr, this often means diving into complex cases, investigating the background of waste streams, and devising robust, compliant disposal solutions. “If a company disposes of chemicals in general waste, it can affect not only people but other living things,” she says.
Ferr’s dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. Customers often take the time to provide compliments, with one even sending a letter of appreciation — now proudly framed in her office.
She’s particularly proud when senior managers of client companies know her name and reputation for high-quality service. One manager described her recent work as “five-star service” — a testament to her expertise and commitment.
“I’m very happy at TS,” Ferr says. “Work is good, my colleagues are great, and management is supportive. I also have options for other roles if I want.”
A former radio journalist and accountant in the Philippines, Ferr graduated near the top of her class before moving to New Zealand. Her long-term goal is to become a Chartered Accountant, with just a few units remaining to adapt to New Zealand systems and law. She keeps a close eye on internal WM New Zealand roles that could help her achieve that goal.
Family is central to Ferr’s life. As the eldest daughter in her Filipino family, she enjoys supporting her household and cooking nutritious meals. Her love of radio hasn’t faded either — she still tunes in regularly, and who knows, maybe we’ll hear her on air again one day!
