Rotorua Transfer Station

Rotorua Transfer Station situated on the corner of Te Ngae Rd & Hamiora Place (228 - 230 Te Ngae Road - 6 Hamiora Place, Ngapuna) is a purpose built facility open to the public for the disposal of general waste, garden waste and recycling.

Conveniently located the Transfer Station provides a clean, tidy environment for people to drop off their waste indoors and sheltered from all weather conditions.

Also providing recycling location to accept   - Cardboard, paper, aluminium and steel cans, glass bottles and jars. We are currently only accepting plastics grade 1,2 & 5 i.e. bottles and containers marked with 1,2 & 5 inside the triangle.

Please note: we will no longer accept cash payments on-site.

Tyre

Free Tyre Recycling with Tyrewise

WM New Zealand is proud to be part of the Tyrewise programme, New Zealand’s regulated product stewardship scheme for end‑of‑life tyres. Our Rotorua Transfer Station is now an official Tyrewise collection site, located at Hamiora Place, which means you can drop off your used tyres for free recycling (conditions apply).

By working with Tyrewise, we’re helping ensure tyres are managed responsibly, reducing waste and protecting the environment. Learn more about the Tyrewise programme here. Conditions for free tyre drop‑off:

  • No more than five tyres per day
  • No commercial loads accepted
  • Tyres must be clean

Exclusions:

  • Cleanfill/ hardfill
  • Asbestos
  • Dangerous goods such as; flammable liquids, flammable solids, poisons, pool chemicals, gas bottles
  • Explosives and fireworks
  • Agricultural residues or chemicals
  • Scrap motor cars
  • Animal by-products e.g. carcases, offal
  • Medical waste of any nature
  • Firearms
  • Radioactive materials

 

Note:

  • An adult must supervise children at all times on site.
  • No hazardous waste is accepted (a restricted waste list is available from the kiosk).
  • Enter at your own risk, no responsibility is accepted for any damage caused.
