Our Circular Services division focuses on recovering materials like construction and demolition waste, organic waste, plastics, and packaging and providing energy recovery solutions to fuel sustainable transport. Our resource recovery efforts support:
The construction and demolition industry generates around 50% of New Zealand’s total waste. At WM New Zealand, we redirect up to 80% of this material away from landfill through our network of Resource Recovery Centres (RRCs).
Our RRCs, including upgraded facilities in West Auckland, the North Shore, and our flagship site at Southdown, provide state-of-the-art sorting capabilities for timber, steel, plastics (PVC, HDPE), green waste, concrete, and more.
Key features include:
At WM New Zealand, we see modern landfills as climate heroes—essential infrastructure that safeguards our environment while supporting Aotearoa’s journey towards a more sustainable future.
While we are committed to reducing waste and maximising recycling, we recognise that some materials cannot yet be recovered. In these cases, well-designed landfills provide the most environmentally responsible solution, ensuring waste is managed safely, sustainably, and with care for future generations.
Today’s facilities are highly engineered systems that:
At WM New Zealand, our Circular Services division is transforming waste into valuable resources, helping Aotearoa transition to a low-carbon, circular economy.
Through facilities like Living Earth, we recover organic waste, producing 64,000 tonnes of premium compost in 2023. Our Materials Recovery Facilities and partners like Plastics Recycling NZ and Comspec recover plastics, creating sustainable materials for industry.
We also lead end-of-life tyre recycling, turning tyres into fuel, playground surfaces, and raw materials — supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future for New Zealand.
