In today’s economic climate, many whānau and individuals across Aotearoa are feeling the pressure. For WM New Zealand Sales Specialist Dominic Francis, that reality hit home one morning on the way to the gym, when he noticed a long line of people waiting outside the local foodbank for kai.
Seeing the growing need in his own community, Dom knew he wanted to do something to help. Working with his colleagues across the greater Wellington area, Dom led a grassroots initiative to collect food, toiletries and other essentials for the Lower Hutt Foodbank.
Wheelie bins were set up at multiple WM New Zealand locations – including Port Road, Technical Services and several transfer stations – giving our teams a way to contribute and show their support. Over the course of a month, team members generously donated, filling four 140L wheelie bins with much-needed supplies.
The response from the foodbank was heartfelt – they were incredibly grateful for the support at a time when demand for their services continues to grow.
A huge thanks to Dom for sparking this initiative, and to everyone across our greater Wellington branches who pitched in. Your generosity and teamwork truly made a difference.
Ngā mihi to Karen Boyes and Emma Birtwistle for sharing the story and capturing the moment.
Together, we can create positive change – one act of kindness at a time.
